Learning Styles

My preferred learning style, as shown in the graph, is Visual-Tactile Learner. I learn best by either reading a book about the subject and watching a powerpoint rather than listening to the teacher talking about it. I also learn best from a hands-on-experience like doing an experiment or creating a simulation of the subject.

Multiple Intelligences

My multiple intelligences are Linguistic(1) which is also known as the verbal learning style. Which involves both the written and spoken. I find it easy to express myself, both in writing and verbally. I love reading and writing. Interpersonal(2) refers to a person's ability to interact with and understand other people and social situations. Naturalistic(3) which is very much like a kinesthetic learner in many ways. They love to be able to touch, feel, hold, and do. Hands-on learning preferably outdoors is the best way for these students to learn. Finally, Musical(4) learners thrive in an environment where they can not only hear music, but also hear patterns and relationships between sounds.

My Biggest Challenge as a Future Teacher

My two biggest challenges as a future teacher will be my on-going battle with depression, and my anxiety. These two will be my biggest hurdles because I have had problems since my freshman year, and I am now a senior. With my two battles I will be fighting the thoughts of self-loathing, and freaking out about the little things that set me off. I will cope with both of them by focusing my energy on my students and trying to help them with what they need as to distract me. These will be my obstacles on my future plans as a teacher. These two hurdles in my life will make teaching harder because I will have to constantly remind myself that what I have is okay, that it makes no difference, and that they do not define me.

Early History of Education in America

     Teachers in the Great Depression continued to teach, not because they had to make a living, the money they were getting wasn't much at all anyways, but they continued to teach for the children they taught. I believe that they taught during the Great Depression because they believed that students need an education, and that even with the bad times everyone was going through, they still needed an eduacaton to help them achieve thier life goals. They taught becuase they loved their jobs, and I believe that this is what motivated them.
    If I was a teacher and something like this happened to me, then I wouldn't stop teaching. Just because our country was low on money, and had a shortage in food, I wouldn't stop teaching. I would be more focused on helping my students during this time, and helping them learn about things that could happen, and the things that put us in the time we are now. I wouldn't let the education of the children go to waste, I would continue to teach, even in bad times.
    The factors that would weigh on me as I make this decision are that of if I would have enough funds to make it work, and I know how short money was in this time, but would the money I still recieve be enough? Also, will parents actually send their children to learn, rather than just for the free fod, no matter how important it is. I would need to know what the risks of continuing teaching would be, and even so, I would not stop.

Leadership Observed

An effective teacher and a good leader are similar because they both possess the traits that are needed to conduct group discussions and lead a group of people, like confidence, and good speaking as well as listening skills. The actions that a teacher uses are hand gestures, and movements that keep the class' eyes on them. They try to make themselves the center of attention. The activities are group discussions, group debates, group participation's and more. My old U.S. History teacher always taught history like it was a story, increasing words he said to keep the class interested. He also was always walking around and would join in to a group discussion if a group wasn´t talking with one another, getting them to break out of their shell and start talking about the topic. Another teacher that had good leadership qualities is my AVID teacher. She always joins in philosophical chairs or our Socratic seminars helping us stay on topic and continue to speak about things we have yet to bring up.

My Leadership in Action

 

I will improve my own leadership skills by watching how others conduct themselves in front of people and learning what I can from the way they are when it comes to group discussions. I am in Harry Potter club and AVID. Harry Potter helps me with my leadership skills because I have to suggest ideas for what we can do, since we do not have much people who are willing to speak up in there. AVID helps me with my leadership skills by having students go up in front of groups of other students and speaking out about a problem they have in one of their academic classes. As well as help students discuss a topic in a civil manner with out getting violent or start yelling. Some organizations that focus on leadership are High on Life, and Theatre. High on Life can help by teaching that to be a leader you have to stand up for what yo believe in and theatre can help by putting you on stage, in front of an audience and acting as a different person out of a certain play.

1. My anticipated graduation year is May 2017
2. History Teacher or Mythology Teacher
3. My after graduation plans are to go to either University of New Orleans, Austin College, or Texas Wesleyan.
4. AVID will help me get there, and I will need an internship and become a student teacher, as well as get either a bachelors degree.
5. Giving knowledge to people, passing it on. teaching students what happened in the past, or what people believed in before the times changed.
